Oto Indians moved west across the Missouri River
from Iowa about 1700 A.D. No other Indians then
lived in east central Nebraska. Modern archeolo
gical & anthropological studies indicate that no
Indians had lived in this district for perhaps as
much as 500 years. And it was not until about 1728
that the Oto were joined in Nebraska by their
cousins, the Missouri Indians. Speaking very
