eastern Nebraska. And they staged wagon trains of pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley as fast as they
could raise supplies and equipment for the 1000-
mile journey. Unlike the great rush of men to
California about that same time, this was a family
movement, including the very young and the very
old. And the Mormons were going to a desert valley
to establish agricultural communities, so they had
to take much with them in order to survive the
 first months of building, planting and waiting for
their first harvest.
